SPA Donates AED's to SEMS
11/25/2008 - Today the Stamford Paramedic Association donated two Lifepak 1000 AED"s to Stamford EMS. These units were presented to the SEMS Board of Directors by SPA President Jim Duffy. While AED's are not new to SEMS, the idea to have special, compact units that are also able to function as cardiac monitors was brought up by members for use on the Bike Tems at special events. Currently, the units that were used lacked monitoring capabilities, which prevented Paramedics from treating potentially lethal cardiac rhythms until either an ambulance or specially equipped ATV's arrive where the traditional equipment is carried. The units, which were authorized by the medical director for SEMS, will allow Paramedics to more rapidly treat the residents and visitors to the City of Stamford at large events. The compact nature of these units allow them to be carried on a bicycle, where the normal units used on the ambulances weigh considerably more and are difficult to mount on a bike, inhibiting their flexibility. These units were donated entirely due to the generosity of the residents and business owners of the City of Stamford who contributed to the 2008 Stamford Paramedic Association Fundraising Campaign. Other community service projects included three scholarships to local high schools, financial support to the Fireman's Burn Camp, and supporting many youth sports league teams. The Stamford Paramedic Association thanks you for your generosity and continued support!
